On the 27 April Dimitri Kitaenko will conduct a concert with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the Grieg Hall in Bergen, Norway. He was Principal conductor of that orchestra from 1990 to 1998. The South Korean piano virtuoso Yeol Eum Son, prize-winner of the Moscow Tchaikovsky competition as well as of the Van Cliburn Competition, plays Prokofiev’s Second piano concerto in a program which also contains Schnittke’s Homage à Grieg and Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony. For his interpretation of this symphony,Maestro Kitaenko has obtained the biggest acclaim. The music magazine Pizzicato wrote about his recording with the Cologne based Gürzenich-Orchester on the label Oehms Classics: “In his powerful account of the Second Symphony, Dimitri Kitaenko shows Rachmaninov’s struggle for light in a deeply felt and nuanced performance. It’s a miracle!”
