With Dimitri Kitaenko one ‘Grandseigneur’ of the baton has conducted the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, the ‘Tagesspiegel’ says in a review of the concerts with works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Richard Strauss. Shostakovich’s First Symphony developed “into the mature look of introspection”, the review mentions. “At the climaxes the orchestra changes abruptly in an icy white which strives to extinguish all recollections.” Kitaenko’s account of Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto was”hot-cold, highly transparently, harmoniously luring”, the critic says.
