Oehms Classics has released the recording of Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony op. 1 and the Suites Nos. 1 and 2 for chamber orchestra with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra (OC 1888).
It is Dmitrij Kitajenko’s first recording with this orchestra, whose artistic adviser he is. In the Internet magazine Pizzicato Remy Franck writes: “With a perfect balance of the Russian romantic elements and the seeds of the later Stravinsky, Dmitrij Kitajenko’s account of Stravinsky’s First Symphony is a declaration of love for this work.
In a number of other releases, conductors tried to give this Opus 1 a more Stravinskyan character. They couldn’t be more wrong, as this recording proves.” From the interpretation of the suites the reviewer says: “Dmitrij Kitajenko and the excellent musicians of the Zagreb Philharmonic succeed very well in tickling the neoclassic refinement and the delightful charm from this music, with a lot of inspiration and some humour.”
