Oehms Classics has published the recording with the Second Symphony by Jean Sibelius and Edvard Grieg’s ‘Allegretto grazioso’ (Symphonic Dances op. 64/2) as well as ‘Last Spring’ (Two Elegiac Melodies op. 34/2). On this CD with the catalogue # OC457 Dmitrij Kitajenko conducts the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
The music magazine Pizzicato has awarded this recording its Supersonic distinction. Remy Franck has qualified the performance as a reference for this Sibelius Symphony, and Guy Engels (Music Editor, Radio 100,7) says, Kitajenko is stunningly enriching the sound spectrum of the work.
Pizzicato concludes: “Dmitrij Kitajenko’s recording of Sibelius’ Second Symphony must be the most atmospheric and the most gripping performance available on disc. With extremely rich and differentiated textures and a forceful breathing it is stunning in its immediacy and impact”.
